This page has links to some sound samples from recent and not so recent recordings. As you'll see, I don't limit myself to a single musical style. I hope you like them.
Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart is a performance with my big band, Pecos River Brass, at the Village Country Club in October 2003.
Little Drummer Boy is another live recording with PRB, at The Duck Inn on December 15, 2004.
Standing Up In A Hammock, an arrangement originally performed by the Buddy Rich Big Band, was recorded at the Village Country Club in July 2006, with Pecos River Brass. The sax section shines very brightly on this one, especially in the first half.
25 Or 6 To 4 is from the Hughes and Luce Ninth Annual Battle of the Bands, performed by Delicious Bass on July 28, 2007.
The following videos are from a Pecos River Brass performance at the Palace Theatre in Grapevine in 2003. Thanks to Chuck Aston for making them available.
Setzer Seltzer Blues is our bandleader John Smith's homage to the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Not your standard big band arrangement, with a short solo by yours truly.
Juan Tizol's Caravan, originally written for the Duke Ellington band, was rearranged for Chicago's big band album.
The Preacher is the Horace Silver classic as arranged for the Woody Herman Orchestra. Check out the dueling tenor saxes by Dave Smith and Mike Huddleston. Great chart.
Finally, PRB features its trombone section in Tom Kubis's arrangement of Bill Bailey. This one moves right along.
